Marathon finishing times. I love the spikes around “pretty” times (3:00, 3:30, 4:00, etc). Shows you how much of human achievement is about setting goals.pic.twitter.com/VEOjvbkgfC

And with a rare cynical take from me, there's sometimes a flipside to goal-setting behavior. I present the histogram of p-values in papers submitted to a journal. Guess where the the strange spike (and dip) is. Not sure nature sets goals like this. http://crookedtimber.org/2006/09/19/attractive-models/ …pic.twitter.com/e3lAwKnwtd
Distribution of high school exit exam scores in Poland. Guess the minimum passing score.pic.twitter.com/RArJv3cvaS
Is that a real graph? Source?
It is supposedly from the 2013 report on Matura (the name of the exam), everyone refers to the pdf https://cke.gov.pl/images/files/matura/informacje_o_wynikach/2013/2013_Matura.pdf … which is not available =\
Ah, whoops, sorry, had to wait a bit longer to load. It is on the page 18 of that link, though the document is in Polish.
Thank you. I can't get the document to load, but this seems convincing. I'm surprised how regular the distribution is. And a little sorry for the tiny number of people who end up on 29!
If that small tick is ≈0.01% (hard to see at that scale), that would mean about 33 students out of 330k got that score!
