There are a bunch of us 40-somethings freelancers that talk about this quietly in bars at conferences. We’re all scared, because we can see 50 approaching like a wall. What happens then, is it this?https://twitter.com/cassidoo/status/1177000056819527680 …

I find this peculiar. It seems like a massive market inefficiency. Like: figure out what the 50+ devs are likely to know that younger devs won't, and put them in the right spot in the org. Some company will figure this out at scale, and it'll make them a lot of money.

Currently being invited to “add a bit of historical context” when I keynote conferences. Not sure whether this is a good sign. I mean, the tech industry desperately needs some historical context. Some grasp of history. But, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion it’s not a good sign…

Well, provided it's about the 20th and 21st centuries it's not too bad. If they're asking about the 19th that's not so good! :-)

I don’t know. There are a lot of parallels that can be drawn to the cultural developments around the telegraph that are pretty applicable..?

It was a joke about your age, not the applicability of the 19th C :-)
