Though I don’t love the question. Writers should be judged on their best work, not all their work. If they haven’t written something bad they havent taken enough chances.
Judgement is, for me, not the high-order bit. For my own creative work, there are certain people whose work - including both their best and their worst - I want to be deeply immersed in. Everyone on that list above is an example.
