One comment that was interesting (I'm paraphrasing): "Want to know what's worse than having a company decide the future of infrastructure? Having a committee of companies decide it."
The person was trying to explain why web standards are such a sprawling mess. That said, I don't entirely buy it - it seems like a balance of competing interests probably prevents at least some forms of bad behaviour. Still, I'd like to understand this better.
