The whole point of the open, thriving web is to have a plethora of platforms, tools, and publishers out there. Monoculture and monopoly are pests upon the free web, whether they’re backed by an open source license or not. Thought Matt of all people would be in tune to that.
Curious: by definition, the HTTP protocol has a 100% monopoly over the web, pretty much tautologically. Is there some Wordpress's goal is worse? (Tone is hard on Twitter, & we don't know one another, so let me say: this is a genuine question, asked b/c I'm trying to understand)

HTTP has been replaced by better alternatives multiple times. We've just chosen to give them the same name after they became ubiquitous.
