Reflecting on the proposed Princess Bride remake, & thinking about how much luck is involved in making great movies. Blade Runner is a great movie without the "Tears in Rain" monologue, but much less so. And that was re-written by Rutger Hauer at the last minute. Talk about luck!
Because either (a) they think they can make money doing so; or (b) they really love it; or both. Same reason 15,000 fantasy authors have written their version of Lord of the Rings. They're not as good, but I understand why people do it.
