For some reason it makes intergalactic travel/communication seem no longer so preposterous, since it’s “close enough” to appear that wide. But I suspect the real lesson is “galaxies are huge” relative to stellar systems.

Wikipedia states that the Virgo cluster subtends about 8 degrees (so, much larger, even though it's much further away). And, of course, there are various large-scale structures; I wouldn't be surprised if some subtend a larger scale still, seen from Earth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observable_universe#Large-scale_structure …
