Hey Twitter power users: have you figured out what makes people follow? I see so many tweets going ultra-viral, from accounts with just a few hundred followers. I would think with many thousands of engagements more of them would convert. So if not engagement, what does work?

It's a bit of a generic laundry list. The most interesting bit to me (if I hadn't heard nice things via friends-of-friends!) would be the bit about history and anthropology, juxtaposed with the tech. But there's nothing unique in the bio.
Bio phrases I loved & caused instafollow: "Fallibilist. Optimist" "Think, play, repeat" "The secure transport of light" "I want you to be everyone" @KevinSimler's @rsnous's @kanjun's & many more. All me-specific; but also them-specific, ppl wearing some of thr heart on thr sleeve

Any thoughts on whether I should post previous affiliations? Very few people have done VC with Peter Thiel, or worked as an economist at the NYFed during the financial crisis...

It depends on what type of follower you want. Who yawns at Thiel? Or is enraged by Thiel? Or thinks "I must follow"? For me, I admire Thiel (though disagree with him on a huge amount), but knowing someone worked for him is only mildly interesting. But others may differ.
