Examples of books (or stories) that you reread years later, & found to be much better? For me: Arrival (Ted Chiang, loved it even the first time); Speaker for the Dead (ditto: loved it at first, even more upon reread); the Great Gatsby (didn't like first time, loved the second)

(Not even 100% sure it was Steppenwolf I reread. Funny thing about that book: it made a very vague impression on me. Siddhartha on the other hand made a strong impression, & I can remember much of it, even down to where I read & reread different pieces.)

Yeah, all I remember of Steppenwolf is dreamy angst. Some kind of mystical journey of initiation; it felt quite enchanting at the time.
