Thank you, everyone, for all the generous, thoughtful suggestions. I ended up going to Grizzly Peak, which gave an otherworldly view of the Bay. Here's a photo, which gives the tiniest hint.pic.twitter.com/XhPIr80Gtz

People have been so generous I wanted to share one of my secret hidey-holes: I love to sit on this seat on Tank Hill. Almost no-one ever there, & it's a gorgeous view out over the city.pic.twitter.com/1L6T2WCGv6
That shot is rather set back. The actual view from the seat is somewhat more like this (taken standing, slightly around from the seat):pic.twitter.com/4YpskikRTv
1. Ferry Building -> Pier 39 2. Lake merced loop 3. Cliff gardens near Land's end. 4. Palace of Fine Arts, during the night for a walk is perfect.
Love 1, 3, and 4, so I'm sure 2 is a great suggestion!
Fire trails behind UC Berkeley are lovely at night! (And there's close to a full moon these nights.)
What a great suggestion! Never heard that.
The marina where The Long Now is. The Interval, long now bar, has a really nice lemon ginger tea for sober contemplative nights. :)
Love it so much! Never tried the ginger tea, I must!
Bernal Heights is lovely. Always nice for a short (45 min) walk, great views of the cityscape
I've somehow never tried it. I must!
