This is intriguing, but hard for me to believe. Do you know the rule?
I doubt it's a rule, but it might be a knack. I suspect that being extraordinarily bright and broad is a pre-requisite.

I think there is a certain intransigence about talented people who are bound to succeed that after a while you can start noticing. And it's not being "perfect". Nureyev had short legs and wasn't the best - .... at first. But that burning fire was there + the ability to improve.
