I was thinking, in the case of Alan Kay, that the concept of Dynabook was in the roots of personal computing and this enabled a lot of other changes.
It's not an example: see the clarification above. I love Alan's work, and know much of it well, but I don't quite think he's an example, though his enablement of, e.g., Vi Hart's work, or involvement in Tron, is in the vein I'm thinking of.

And to that list we could add VPRI's researchers, Y Combinator HACR researchers like Vi Hart, but also Bret Victor's work, and others. Even Steve Jobs. Anyway, I think I'm not understanding the nuance of your question.

Reread what I wrote: I'm asking for people who were early enablers of many, many fields. Alan was mostly early to one field. Though Vi is somewhat different, as was Tron.
