Does anyone know how to copy-and-paste nested bullet points in Google Docs? Tearing my hair out, and all the obvious searches yield nothing useful. @googledocs

Hm, just did that the other day and just double-checked: works flawlessly with the usual CMD+C & CMD+V. Maybe it depends on the browser (using Safari)pic.twitter.com/XrKGJZa6h9

Well, this is interesting: it doesn't work for me in Safari. I'm on desktop, OS X, using cmd-C and cmd-V. Same for you?

Same for me. Generally, one can "paste as plaintext" via CMD+CTRL+Shift+V which would reproduce your problem. Maybe you have enabled "paste as plaintext" enabled by default somehow on the OS level?

Ah, interesting! If I use the menu with rightclick, copy-and-paste works correctly. But if I use cmd-c and cmd-v it loses the formatting. So there is something strange going on. In at least some other apps formatting is preserved, so I'm not sure it's OS level.

But it does suggest some sort of keybinding issue. Google Docs preferences doesn't seem to offer any options like this, unfortunately.

Huh, that is interesting. If you ever find out how to enable/disable it, I'd love to know. Sometimes, I really just want to paste as plaintext a bunch of stuff in a row and have to twist my fingers in these awkward poses to get the ctrl+cmd+shift+v working

Will do. Thanks for this - it's certainly improved this problem substantially, though not completely solved!

I'm fairly confident that you're somehow doing a "plaintext paste". And moderately sure you've remapped cmd-v to it. I once followed someone's advice on twitter to re-map cmd-v to plaintext paste. It immediately broke this behavior. I reverted it. Have you manually re-mapped it?

Yup! This solves the problem! Thanks (& to @rasbt and @andy_matuschak and everyone else who made suggestions)!

(This has bugged me for months or years. But it was always just one or two things, so I lived with it. Today it was for dozens! So thank you all for saving me a lot of bother!)
