I think irony served the purpose well. Anyway we have countries with extremely high per capita gdp and low fertility rates. Those includes Japan and s.Korea of course so it's hardly cultural (in the "European culture" sense)

There are places in the EU where real disposable median income after transfers is way higher than in the worse half of the US (free healthcare, free college, 6 months maternity leave, more vacations etc) yet fertility rates are lower than the poorest parts of the US.
