Yes, I know. I'm making a very different point. I've talked in some detail to dozens of drivers about their business model. Most made erroneous statements suggesting that they don't understand their business model. This makes them quite likely to make bad decisions.
Of course, that's a far from random sample; I may have misunderstood; etc. I haven't done a study. But I certainly believe that Uber/Lyft are benefiting substantially from a large number of drivers who don't understand the economics of driving.
Probably also depends on location. Have talked with several Uber drivers in Zagreb, Croatia, who opened own companies and started to hire drivers to work for Uber plus provide licenced taxi services. Sort of mixed model which seems to work for them.
Agreed. I think we're talking mostly U.S. scenarios. Was reading that the best money can be made in the first 3?? years of Uber/Lyft entering a new market.
They might not understand the economics of driving... but do you, knowledgeable sir, understand the economics of cashflow. To quote another philosopher, "Money over errrthang!"
It’s generally safer to assume you don’t understand what matters to certain people than to assume those people aren’t responding rationally to incentives.
That’s called the free market. The ones who aren’t (and are happily & cost-effectively making a decent living) would tell you to leave them the hell alone.
