Perhaps one way to simulate this pressure in essay writing is to write drafts in numbered list form, separating each thought. (Then you could remove the numbers before you publish).

I agree, but I also like the ability to freely refine short aphorism-like phrases without initially stressing about how they will be received.
One way I helped myself get the best of both worlds is sending texts in a ‘judgement free’ thread to my brother, then iteratively refine the texts. Eventually I tried to form a narrative and aggregated them into refined draft here: http://amathematicalworld.com/infinitepotential …
tweetstorm ux also makes it feel right to write only in H1 , if you wrote only in h1 on your blog that would feel weird and wrong
