After reading this article about the mind-blowing project that enabled scientists around the world to collectively capture an image of a black hole, my first thought was: If humanity can do this, why can't we solve the #climate crisis?

Seriously? Talk about apples and oranges. One project involved maybe hundreds of people, the other involves the entire human race.

No. Developing an effective method for extracting carbon dioxide from the atmosphere on a gargantuan scale and storing it safely forever does not involve "the entire human race."

This report from the NAS on carbon capture is surprisingly promising: https://nas-sites.org/dels/studies/cdr/ …. Scalable at $100 / tonne for CO2 right now, with a lot of prospects for improvement. At $10 / tonne negative emissions would cost less than the Clean Air Act as a % of GDP.
