If I were a foreign government looking to destabilize western democracy, this seems like a decent strategy: Viciously attack the nicest person I can find from a fake account that espouses all sorts of hateful fringe ideas that almost no one really holds.

Even the most graceful response possible still attracts attention to the account posting fringe ideas, and creates the illusion that such people and ideas are dramatically more widespread than they really are.

Totally agree on extracting whatever insight you can from even the worst-delivered feedback. But no reason to amplify the raw feedback beyond you and this troll’s handful of followers. I’m certainly no better off for having seen it.

Yes! Both @noahpinion & @juliagalef have made thoughtful arguments along these lines, which have made me block trolls more consistently.
