"Is Christianity dying? ... If this is so, it is the basic event of modern times, for the soul of a civilization is its religion, and it dies with its faith." Will Durant
As education increases, reason and knowledge are important analytical tools/skills used in critical thinking to eradicate fairytales and pseudo-science from our modern belief systems.
Religion doesn't necessary conflict with reason and science. Dogma and legalism do, which is where we do see religious conflict with science. Most foundation scientific/philosophic thinkers were, in fact, very religious. This includes Catholics monks, Islamic clerics, etc.
Religion is the antithesis of reason and science. It's history is an 'oral tradition' of indoctrination based soley upon dogmatic faith as opposed to the Scientific Method of Inquiry based on empirical evidence, objective logical analysis and peer reviewed research.
"based soley upon dogmatic faith" Aquinas would not only disagree with you, he'd use pure logic to reduce you to a shell of man. Perhaps Averroes, Maimonides, & Spinoza would sit in judgement.
