📣 Announcing an experimental new tool for thought 🚨 @michael_nielsen and I have been wondering: what happens if we take powerful ideas from cognitive science and deeply integrate them into explanations? Our first experiment in a new "mnemonic" medium:https://quantum.country/qcvc

this is a great initiative! though imo, spaced-repetition is not the impetus for learning, but for relearning/remembering. to learn, it'd be great to interact w/ the material, progressively summarize it, & make your own flashcards. have you guys given this any thought?

An interesting challenge with having people make flashcards is that most people don't know how to make good ones. I've found this consistently in talking with people about spaced repetition. I discuss this a bit in http://augmentingcognition.com/ltm.html

^Reading your explanation of Anki inspired me to start Anki-ing everything I look up more than a few times. So far it’s working well, but designing good cards was definitely the hardest part.

Probably won't get them right at once anyway (cf Nielsen's "exhaust" intermediate cards necessary for arriving at the final ones)

The technique in your LTM piece seemed more like "read repeatedly and gain increasingly deep understanding" while this quantum piece is "understand fully at each step towards completion". Do you see these as two distinct techniques? What are your thoughts on one versus the other?
