The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (or "PETM") was quite a roller-coaster. At its start, average global temperatures increased by approximately 6 °C within about 20,000 years. Slow compared to what we're doing now, but fast by geological standards! It lasted 200,000 years.
