Capitalism is such that people, by and large, capture much less value than they create. An individual trillionaire would be the sign that 1/ someone truly can make a dent in the world 2/ the promise of infinite leverage has come true

Curious what you think the socially optimal Gini coefficient is for a society. Higher or lower than in the US right now? (I realize this is an underspecified question.)

I haven’t made my mind on this yet. I empathize with the “decreasing returns of wealth” argument for redistribution. But I also think that it can also allow toxic institutions to grow way out of proportion. And (I think?) countries with more redistribution grow slower

So I tend to lean towards “there’s no ‘right’ Gini coefficient — let the market figure it out at any given moment.” Also think people pay way too much attention to inequality, way too little to wealth creation and economic growth.
