Does anyone have a pointer to a good in-depth tutorial explanation of how the famous hockey stick graph (for temperature) is constructed? I've been reading the original paper by @MichaelEMann et al, & there's parts of the PCA spatial analysis & statistics I don't yet understand

For reference: I understand regular PCA-for-matrices, though the spatial variation they do is new to me. And I have a basic grounding in statistics, though I'm not an expert.
