Great essay! The link to chunking reminds me of the work of Anders Ericsson on expertise. Do you know of other names for this from other fields eg neuroscience?
Thanks! Ericsson was involved in some of the work, I believe (and was, IIRC a student or postdoc of Herb Simon, who did much of the early work). I don't know of neuroscientists working on it.
