The impulse is not confined to humans.
what is the nature of these affiliations we innately crave? I've heard that the bacteria in soil can cause antidepressant effects, and obviously we love our pets, but that strikes me as more similar to how we love a baby than to "[affiliations] with other forms of life."
I have a suspicion that chordata have blanket desire for closeness.
I wonder if the rest of animals also feel the biophilia to other animals as well...
