I've always found long-term friendship more mysterious than romantic attraction. So many inexplicable aspects to why friends choose and keep one another.

I wonder how many people lack the skills to form & maintain close friendships, & so aren't so much making a choice as accepting a default. In my home country (Australia), there's historically been a lot of emphasis on men (especially) not disclosing any type of vulnerability.

Your angle is super interesting. In my own experience I feel the "home example" is much stronger in love - I definitely didn't see or have strong friendships as a child and had to learn it myself when I realised it was important to me. First principles, much iteration

And yes living internationally definitely strengthened and filtered them. But I'm interested in this vulnerability aspect and how it plays out in male friendships (we definitely have the same problem in Hungary).
