This is an idle thought that occasionally pops into my head. I often am struck that so many arguments for QC are based on efficiency and similar concerns. Yet in conventional computing, that's just a tiny piece of the overall picture.

one answer is quantum sensing. https://arxiv.org/abs/1611.02427 QKD and quantum communication could also be seen as being applications of a better interface.

I think a big application will be physical interfaces: compute a highly entangled state then output it as photons, or input raw quanta and do computed measurements. Quantum equivalents of signal sources and oscilloscopes would make some experiments orders of magnitude easier.

In my mind, I don't think quantum computers are really in a place to replace classical computation for general computation. More likely, they are going to fill a similar role that GPU's fulfill now: specialized computation hardware meant to augment general purpose CPUs

A Schrödinger interface of course. It only gives answers to questions you haven’t asked.

It's a shame that so many people think about quantum computers in terms of quantum complexity theory only.

Indeed.

Another suggestion to be taken with a grain of salt: how about publication of quantum information for research? With a quantum network and quantum memory one could attach qubit states to a scientific paper and leave the choice of measurement basis to the reader.

Unfortunately you cannot copy quantum states, hence you need to send the circuit which prepares the state, which is classical data
