Not quite "checklists", but I make lists of ideas I think I could write a nice paper about. It's amazing how often I completely forget these ideas until I look back at the lists! I have two of these lists sitting on my desk now.
I've occasionally done this (though not systematically), and have noticed the same thing: it's amazing how many good ideas I forget.

referencing back to idea. if some idea is good it usually reoccurs in some form, keep copies in digital file > in physical file > on some random piece of paper > margin of a book. it does not even take an effort and can be random + it automatically extends idea with each note.
