I have a (paper) travel checklist. Before I leave I simply run down the list, making sure I haven't forgotten anything. Often find one or two things I'd forgotten.

It's funny, but it really reduces anxiety. I moved recently (within SF), and haven't put it up on the wall yet. And when I just travelled, I left the house with that lingering feeling I forgot something.
