BTW, no idea if that account is Freeman Dyson or a fan. Grammatical and punctuation errors in a bio don't really seem like what I'd expect from Dyson, but who knows. In any case, I've enjoyed the tweets!

A greater sense of the numinous than almost anything else I've read. I've never finished either - I can't read very far before starting all kinds of projects, it's just too stimulating. I wouldn't call it sci-fi, particularly, though I guess it's shelved there; more genreless.

Have you read George Dyson's Darwin Amongst the Machines? I reread it recently and had completely forgotten about the long chapter therein about Stapledon's life and WWI experiences and how they influenced the themes of the books.

Also I highly recommend this lecture by Kim Stanley Robinson on how Virgina Woolf and Stapledon handle time: http://www.kimstanleyrobinson.info/node/477 -- and the correspondence between the two!
