legibility is definitely important but also good ideas have a way of finding an audience, esp if you publicly dwell on them long enough
I'm claiming illegibility is often a positive sign, and tweets which get an unusually low amount of engagement (like my climate tweet) are sometimes particularly worth paying attention to.

I read this a few years ago, maybe because of something you tweeted? This is exactly what I mean by my audience being exactly the people that follow me - I wonder if it’s a regurgitation of this thing I read a while ago

People tend to respond best to opinions they already hold, or are near to holding; they like (and engage with) things which are close to what they believe. If you're saying something strikingly new, it will be tend to be illegible.
