What's the most interesting new thing you learnt in 2018 where did you encounter it and via who?

A bit embarrassing bc I'm so late to both parties! One was new topologies for thinking - via
@worrydream,@michael_nielsen. Something I'd been pondering abt for long, just much higher level; trying to grasp. Other was re: surprisal. Both helped me think abt my work differently!

More or less :), the whole formula (for computer scientists/communication technology) would be I = ld(1/P), but I = 1/P should be good enough to explain the core principle

(and you don't run in the discussion which logarithm should be used, although admittedly you loose a bit of information)
