Whenever I teach little kids something, I'm always trying harder to teach the meta-lessons, like breaking down a problem into smaller parts, or that practice makes you better.

Took me a while to realize that teaching meta-lessons directly is basically impossible.
It can, however, make it easier for people to learn a lot more from later experience. "Oh, that's what that was all about" is a pretty common pattern.

I guess the benefit is that you can learn the lesson with fewer experience instances, because someone has told you the pattern (so you don’t have to figure out the pattern yourself).
