It doesn’t hold up in the graphics department anymore - and they weren’t eye-popping even at the time - but playing through F.E.A.R. In a dark room was a memorable experience. They nailed the ambience and horror experience IMO.
It's funny, but the relationship between the graphics and the game is very, very complicated. It's interesting to look at early prototypes of Journey and realize that they backed off the graphics in many ways... and it made the game better.
