What are the most beautiful video games ever made? Not just visually, but the overall experience?

The responses to this have been awesome! I've discovered so many new amazing-looking new games, looked at some familiar ones in a new light, and enjoyed hearing about other people's experiences. More suggestions welcome!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so many wonderful game suggestions! I asked someone at
@magic to compile a list of recommended games, ordered by # of suggestions. Here it is:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zfBh2Y-MyFMY5Kej_U-2YYGgW_jqDv08Ha5QyWlM56o/edit?usp=sharing …Show this thread -
The most recent suggestions won't have made it into the sheet, and I set a cap of 2 hours on data collection. That meant a few (< 10%, I believe, as I write) of games were missed. Apologies if your suggestion slipped through!

I particularly enjoy the final few minutes of Journey, which I've rewatched (and replayed) multiple times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTBeKiRleQ4&feature=youtu.be&t=4211 … Incredibly gorgeous!

Spoiler: a connection that always come to mind: the Journey end sequence reminds me of the end sequence of C. S. Lewis's Narnia books, another amazing ascension-to-heaven story.

Watched the trailer - looks incredible

I think I already mentioned how much I enjoyed Slower Speed of Light by MIT Game Labs. Not bc it's picturesque but it's really quite trippy and stretchy - esp. as it's for kids! - and you feel like you're A) underwater B) drunk.

I love the idea, but wish the implementation were better. Seems like a proof of concept with a lot of potential!

Terry Tao has a really interesting comment on the difficulty of doing this in a multiplayer context:https://plus.google.com/+TerenceTao27/posts/Rimds4xRCo1 …

Will read haha you know when you say "Terry Tao" I just go and do whatever is mentioned

Curious, Anna, which trailer did you watch?
