More startling way of looking at it: several people born in the 1880s will have seen a moon landing and none born in the 1980s will.

I wasn't alive for any of the moon landings. But watching them is... goosebumps. And then it occurs to me that only 4 of 12 are still alive, and most (all?) are in their 80s.

One solution: the answer "because it would be freaking awesome" needs to become an acceptable answer to "why?"
