Do you think most people like you more than they like the average person?

Must say, these results aren't quite what I expected! Expected the breakdown to be much more biased towards the "Yes, more" answer, but the answers roughly conform to what they "should" be (if you assume a normal distribution)

I love your Twitter polls but the selection effects are excruciating! (Not just on yours but on all Twitter polls.) Everything has to be bracketed with, “Of Devon’s followers who noticed this poll and chose to answer it...”

I used to worry about that, but I've come to like it. It means the poll isn't revealing about the population-level answer to the question. Rather, it's really revealing something about the way the person asking the question relates to the world.

In this case: Devon's tweeps probably have a relatively realistic view of themselves!

I wonder if anybody has studied that! It seems like you could identify similar polls with an edit distance or something, and characterize differences in populations of respondents by taking intersections of followers. Hard to automate all of it, but maybe worth exploring.
