Given a good idea/strong thesis underpinning an essay or blog post, how much does quality of prose matter between mediocre vs great writing for getting the message across?

1/ This is a question of degree. They are not completely separable, but they are somewhat. I could attempt describing a concept in Spanish/German, and the result would be total garbage. That's not a signal of the idea's quality but my lack of mastery over the language.

2/ But if I can't state it clearly in English, I agree that's a signal of the idea's quality (or my understanding of it). TLDR: Strength of thesis & quality of prose are highly correlated—language is a substrate of thought after all—but they are not totally inseparable!
