Good read: still thinking about it days later. Would it be an accurate summary that the central goal for colonizing Mars (or anywhere off-Earth) is to quickly cut (eventually to zero) the number of Earth-side humans’ full-time output required to support each non-Earth resident?

Yes, sort of. Since Mars-side production focuses initially on bulk commodities which are less labor intensive, Earth-side labor dependence drops as slowly as possible, relative to total mass shipped. Remember, Mars labor is the cost leader.
