One of the precious oddities of life: meeting someone, having just one (often apparently innocuous-at-the-time) conversation with them, and still thinking regularly about that conversation years or decades later. Like a comet passing through your life.
Brought to mind by @nayafia's essay about technical conversations (https://nadiaeghbal.com/technical-conversations … ). I had breakfast in 2008 with Harry Collins, a sociologist who coined the related notion of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactional_expertise …. I probably think about that conversation every few weeks.
There are dozens - probably hundreds - of similarly impactful conversations in my past. Serendipity is such an important part of life.
