Best movie trailers ever? A few of my faves: Interstellar teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WzHXI5HizQ … Cloud Atlas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWnAqFyaQ5s … Man of Steel teaser:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wArmHSPIvlQ …

The people who make trailers are mindbogglingly good at making information sticky.

Also, curious fact: the quality of the trailer is correlated with the quality of the movie, but to some extent independent. Fr'instance I enjoyed "Man of Steel", but nowhere near as much as I enjoyed the trailer.

Another trailer I love: the trailer for Brave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnGNe3SB9Fk … The movie was only so-so.

The last 1 second of that trailer is an absolute masterpiece. If there were Oscars for 1-second shots, it would have deservedly won.

More great trailers: full trailer for Man of Steel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVu3gS7iJu4 … The Dark Knight Rises: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gFwvozMHR4 … (Yeah, I'm a fan of both Nolans.)

An aesthetic I like is when the use of music is deliberately restricted, and many Chris Nolan associated trailers do that well.

The first 90 seconds of the Furious 7 trailer is marvellous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skpu5HaVkOc … I want to meet the genius who thought of that final jump, the car chase as art form.

Fun! Hadn't seen it before. Loved the trailer for "Hail, Caesar!"

Looking through my YouTube Favorite Trailers playlist (which YT has deleted much of...) these are great too: The Social Network https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB95KLmpLR4 … 10 Cloverfield Lane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saHzng8fxLs … Only God Forgives [UK trailer]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiSq-7QQDQg …

Love TSN trailer. Loved 10CL, but hadn't seen the trailer - that was great! And the OGF trailer was very good. All three are surprisingly good at building tension.

The exact reason I really dislike trailers and actively avoid them. Invariably miniature highlight reels that stick in the mind for months until I finally come to watch the film "for the first time" and sit there inadvertently trying to figure when/how each snapshot will appear
-
When they do eventually appear their impact is nearly always lessened, even with the feature length context. I believe their have been several films I've loved, only because I didn't see the trailer (Gravity springs to mind). Teaser trailers are a different story altogether.

I was having this discussion two years ago with my brother who is a game developer in regards to the education sector and how films/TV create engagement. Btw, have you read Made to Stick by
@chipheath? Chip has written extensively on it along with Jonah Berger (book: Contagious)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

... though J.J. Abrams also observes movie trailers now reveal too much, not leaving enough of the "mystery box" to them

How's that a fair comparison? Lecture facts tend to be very abstract/cognitively demanding, not visual-emotional. OTOH they're probably a lot more valuable vs. trailer facts. Not to say lectures can't be better, but Feynman (or
@stat110 ) are probably close to upper limit.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
