Our book http://elephantinthebrain.com is focused on identifying the most common motive, but in any complex area of life 1000s of motives are relevant. Yes, those who act on other motives are often better people.
Robin's being using this template as long as I've known him. It generates many interesting ideas. But I wish he'd make the case for the opposite. Because the opposite is often true. And, if you pick people with care, it's almost always true.
