At #CCN2018 we tried a new idea. Participants got to each meet 6 others one-on-one for 15 min. @titipat_a's algorithm assigned people to meet others with similar interests. It felt good to me, a tad more friendly after it, too. Opinions? Suggestions? Feedback?
I've found as short as 2 mins can work well. Especially good with groups that have very heterogeneous interests, & are not afraid to share (not most science meetings, unfortunately). I've only done it a few times, but have made a few long-term friends this way.

If you could replace all poster sessions in your life with targeted one-on-ones. Would you?

I approach poster sessions as targetted 1-one-1s: I try to find people who don't have an audience, and then spend 2+ minutes talking intensely with them.
