Maybe. It's a strong part of my personality to try to systematize messy processes, so it seems sorta like breathing. I also show the actual process at various points, rather than merely a finished product; that is deliberate, but probably gives the impression of much effort.

In general, I'm a fan of what I call discovery fiction - basically providing accounts of how something _could_ have been discovered. (Actually, for this article, I guess it's discovery non-fiction.) And you're right: that style does seem effortful. But hopefully also insightful.
