Here's my worry. Studies indicate that people who are afraid become more right-wing, even exterminationist. No serious climate model suggests that humans, globally, will not become more and more afraid in coming years. Those two paragraphs, in combination, say we're fucked.

You misunderstood my worry. Climate change will make people afraid by destroying or threatening their property or livelihood. Those frightened people will be attracted to authoritarian leaders. Thus, authoritarian leaders will gain vast power. Al Gore doesn't enter into it.

Ah, I see. I thought your argument was: climate denial -> climate change -> more scared people -> right wing politics -> climate denial. A sort of unvirtuous circle. (And I was pointing out the last step isn't always true.) Thanks for clarifying.

I've no doubt Al Gore's work on climate was genuine and well intentioned. But I sometimes wonder if it backfired by contributing to climate becoming a partisan issue in the US.
