Sat on a high-energy physics hiring committee once. The process was oriented around preprints; I barely remember any discussion of journals.
Of course, the best committees I've sat on in other areas also didn't much discuss journal or impact factor, but rather the actual research work done. Not always true, alas.

(One curiosity: until I started working on open science, I'd barely ever heard impact factor mentioned seriously in hiring. Though I had heard people talk a lot about the "quality" of journals. I wonder how field-dependent interest in impact factor is?)

It certainly is. The are no IFs for humanities journals; physics, maths and computer science are more focussed in preprints and conference papers. It's probably strongest in chemistry, life sciences and parts of social science.
