I'm aphantasiac and once practiced using memory palaces to memorize the order of a deck of cards. I was shocked how well it worked (this was before I knew aphantasia was unusual)

This is interesting. I am aphant and to me such memorization techniques were absolutely baffling. "Oh, gee, now I have to remember the loci AND what I want to learn, how helpful!"

I have no ability to visualize people, faces, or colors. I can imagine shapes, but its not fully visual, more a strong sense of orientation, position, and scale

Same for me! And yes, method of loci works, at least to some extend, for me.

I have literally no minds eye at all. No Shapes, colours or anything. Trying to do a memory palace is like a lower level version of my inner monolgue. Doesn't work for me. more interesting is "remembering what something looked like" when you have no visual memory.

Best analogue might be remembering the next word of a song. The next word is just there, it's not really conscious, you just get a feeling of what you need to say. Most visual cognition tasks are basically like that for me (e.g. mental transformations of shapes)

I have aphantasia, and the concept of recalling things by virtually looking around a visualized environment has always seemed ludicrous to me. I sometimes do use mnemonics based on artificial constructions, but I don't "look at them", I remember the semantics of the situation.

I always thought it was a metaphor and yeah, it was like telling myself a story about what it would be like if I could visit "memory palace". So, those techniques didn't stick with me, unfortunately.

I've read there are replacements that involve the use of narratives and even the use of music/rhythms

I tried the method of loci but found it unhelpful. At the time, I thought "mind's eye" was a metaphor.
