      1) i often approach problems by looking at how other people have handled them and thinking about what the pros and cons of their solutions are. i don't put much value in originality unless an original solution solves a problem in a uniquely beneficial way.https://twitter.com/lorenschmidt/status/962766877582913536 …

      2) while it's impossible to be truly objective, i try to think about what goals we can accomplish that benefit players -- and what subset of players. i also try to think about how decisions may negatively impact other players. perceived loss can be powerful.

      3) when trying to analyze or solve narrative or system problems, i work on a large whiteboard. it feels like a more natural way to work, closer to writing in notebook, and i will often pull 1 or 2 people in to look at what i'm working on.

      4) almost nothing i design or write goes out for wide review before i've already privately run it by 2 or 3 people. even when i'm confident in what i'm doing, other perspectives can be invaluable, especially when i'm still in the process of defining things.

      5) i don't think of myself as a creative person as much as a problem solver. i think of the decisions i make as potential solutions to problems. if they don't work, it's not a criticism of my shallow creative well. it's just a bad solution that needs another iteration.

      6) i have avoided imposter syndrome for my whole life by believing that we are all incredibly stupid, incompetent, and/or dysfunctional. my dad tells dozens of stories of his own embarrassing screw-ups and mistakes. when i trip and fall flat on my face, i know i'm in good company

      Replying to @jesawyer

to riff off this: 1) I don't attach myself to people's perception of me (but I don't ignore it either) 2) I'm willing to change my view on things when I receive new information. If I make a statement and someone proves me wrong, I rethink my statement and don't do it again
