From my perspective as a Tech Artist and automation engineer...I'd say never underestimate the value of knowing how to implement a binary search. Also, learn to set test goals. Having goals to look for when checking work is great for gaining accurate knowledge and awareness.
Student asked what’s the one piece of advice I would give to students that want a career in gamedev? In my experience, assuming other things being roughly equal (quality, personality), the person who’s clearly faster is almost always more employable. Speed kills.

Testing is a practice designers and engineers should know. Having test goals for playtests helps get targeted info. Having an idea for how to test as an engineer avoids hasty conclusions. A friend wrote a comparison method. First said it was faster than standard implementation
