Any folks with alot of melee animation experience have rigging tips for weapons? Are you animating the prop itself and constraining hands? Do you have some kind of weapon space switch on your IK arms? I've brute forced this in the past and am looking for new approaches. Thanks!

Prop attach joint in the character rig at the end of the joint chain with space switcher for it. Attach the wpn to the prop joint. If the wpn is complicated and needs it’s own anim, export that separately and play that synced with the character anim.
